Monthly Work Parties

Monthly Work Parties

Join Western Beavers for casual, hands-on restoration days on Eastern Oregon's working lands. Plant willows, improve habitat, try new approaches, and see what's happening along our high-desert streams.

Upcoming:

November > Tree Planting ODLT Fall Work Party | Pueblo Mountains
Dates: November 7th (Harvesting), and November 13 and 14th, 2026 (Planting)
Location and host: Trout Creek Ranch with Oregon Desert Land Trust
Work planned: Join 8+ folks to help at Trout Creek Ranch and beyond! We need assistance with first harvesting and then later planting 1,000 willow stakes in the Pueblo Mountains to continue ODLT's collaborative Cottonwood Creek restoration project.

December > Half-Moons for the High Desert | Prineville
Date: December 11th, 2026
Host: Prineville working ranch with Western Beavers Cooperative
Work planned: Help build crescent-shaped rainwater catchments and plant native vegetation on a working ranch. We're testing a simple technique adapted from African dryland restoration to see how healthier upland soils and vegetation might benefit the streams below.

What to expect

These are informal, hands-on days in the field. Come when you can - there's no commitment to attend regularly.

We generally aim for the second Friday of each month, depending on the season and project needs. We'll send registered volunteers meeting details, what to bring, and any special site considerations ahead of time. Many projects are on private working lands.

Workdays vary in physical effort, from light planting to more strenuous digging and walking on uneven ground. We'll share details for each event in advance. Questions about accessibility, physical demands, or logistics? Feel free to contact us before signing up.

A little more about the work

Our work parties are opportunities to lend a hand, learn from the land, and support beavers and communities across Eastern Oregon. Some days involve tried-and-true restoration work; others give us a chance to experiment with new approaches and see what works. We collaborate with ranchers, landowners, and conservation partners to support healthier streams and the landscapes around them.
